Since Anet nerfed a lot of the energy management builds it seems the MoMe is becoming a little less popluar. Boon/Prot doesnt heal as well as it used too, Inspired and revealed hex arent doing as good a job as they used to. Energy Tap has too long a casting time for a monk.

I was thinking of changing to Mo/A. I like the Dark Escape, awesome skill for when your being pounded on or need a quick getaway. Dark Escape should have been a monk skill Tongue. Although Mo/A needs a careful eye on those wasted energy skills with having no good energy management.

What Secondary Profession are you going with nowadays?

Well I haven't been doing much healing lately as I have been smiting my way to Vabbi  Grin

I switched to Rit though awhile back.  I like flesh of my flesh and  some of the rit heals
Plus there is a lot of benefit I think in the spirits and channeling skills

(sorry can't think of the one I use a lot offhand)  Mesmer used to work well but I gave it up.

I have been toying with the idea of trying a ranger --  probably silly but ---   Grin

I think a necro would work also for a secondary but I am no expert lol   Roll Eyes

I have no idea about monking, but check out Glyph of Lesser Energy (ele).  5 to start, 1 casting time, 30 recharge - next 2 spells cost 15 less each.  I know that monk spells typically cost less than 15, but this could be an option for you in terms of energy management since it costs no attributes.

Edit:  I've also read of Mo/N who use Offering of Blood for energy creation.  It's an elite though and costs some attribute points

I usually use Me, although I don't always need energy managment.  Healing builds are usually pretty energy efficient.  In Fort Aspenwood I roll with a /n so I can use soul feast to exploit corpses so I don't get a well of the profane slapped next to the ele I'm trying to bond.

Some people in the forums uses Necro for secondary so they can use "Offering of Blood" for energy.  Necros FTW!

In RA and AB I tend to run Mo/W since KD assassins were giving me a lot of trouble. Balanced Stance doesn't require a whole lot of tactics to be effective, but makes assassins much less troublesome.

I've pretty much always used /Me and still do.  But then again, I haven't gotten my monk to the most challenging areas yet so I'm still learning.  I did mess around with /Rt for a while, though, which was fun. Smiley

I've heard of some monks going Mo/R and dropping basic Snare/Barbed Traps near them to cripple meleers trying to gank em.  I don't know how effective this would be, but it sure would keep some of the baddies off at minimal energy/skill costs.

Plus, troll Unguent & Healing Spring also feed off the same line in Ranger.... might be a good setup to use.

Any thoughts?

Sounds interesting, especially the crippling part.  The only problem I see, is that as  a monk I usually have to be somewhat mobile to reach allies on the front line, also not sure it would be better than using ageis or RoF.  I think I will try it out and see how it works.

eh, ive tried a ranger 2ndary before and didnt like it.  i monk needs to be not-casting as much as possible to be able to cast more (does that make sense?), and Snare, Troll Unguent, and Healing Spring all have 2-3 secs cast times.  Assassin skills have much better ways to run away and cripple on-coming meleers.

I think my favorite 2ndary for a monk would have to be Assassin.

Dark Escape - Stance. For 5...13 seconds, you move 25% faster and take half damage. Dark Escape ends if you successfully hit with an attack.
Return - Spell. All adjacent foes are Crippled for 3...7 seconds. Teleport to target other ally's location.
Heart of Shadow - Enchantment Spell. Shadow Step to a random nearby location. For 60 seconds, the next time you take damage you are healed for 10...94 Health.
