First off, I would like to apologize for my recent lack of activity in the Guild. I feel as through I have let many of you down in-game, Omega here on the forums, and the Guild as a whole in terms of Alliance representation. Although we are a laid back group, it is still important for me as Guild Leader to be present regularly to talk to many of you, learn your opinions, and I am currently failing to do this.
I am growing increasingly concerned about the direction our Guild is taking in terms of goals and mindset. While I do not pretend do be familiar with much of the Guild's history, I can say with certainty that even before I succeeded Moon as Leader, that we have become more neighborly with the other Guilds in the Alliance, and have changed our focus to become less obligation-oriented, as well as having a calmer atmosphere. I have received numerous complaints in the past few weeks regarding the behavior and attitudes of more than one BG member, and I believe our changed and changing ways to be the cause. We have become too concerned with things that are not truly important; namely wealth, titles, and other forms of prestige. Elitism is discouraged in both this Guild and the rest of the Alliance, so it saddens me to see this change in perspective. Few members seem to have this attitude at present, however, it seems that this problem is only getting worse, and that others are beginning to follow.
At the center of this is my own frustration, which has led to many of these problems. My lack of long-term planning, combined with recent inactivity has left confusion, little leadership, and vague promises of new things. In tandem with the rise of apathy I have seen in the Guild, we are starting to segment as a community and go astray from our core values and beliefs. Again, I hold only myself responsible.
I do not expect to become active again in the next few weeks minimum. My course load is extensive, and I have just landed an important position within the MAE Department here at the University. I have little time apart from studying and real-life social obligations to put into the game. I have left many projects, guides in particular, unfinished as I simply do not have the time to complete them. I apologize for these in particular, as I know I told many of you in-game that these would have been completed months ago. Similarly, I owe Omega another apology for his patience as I work on changes here on the Site and Forums; changes promised months ago. I have kept my Alliance obligations to a minimum, which not only adversely affects the Guild, but the Alliance as a whole. I intended to support Sharei in her new position as Alliance Leader, and yet it seems I am only compounding the problems by being difficult to reach, and not being present in-game to discuss the state of the Alliance and changes. This is one of the key responsibilities of a Guild Leader in our Alliance, and I am failing it in every regard.
With all of these things in mind, the stability of Boston Guild is shaky at best right now. Leadership is needed, and I cannot provide any at this time. There are several possible paths to take here, from appointing new Officers, appointing a new Guild Leader, or beginning structured activities, but I do not feel that any of these will solve the core problems we are facing. I cannot solve these alone, and so I ask that you all give your input here and give suggestions so that we can once again be the community for which we love this Guild.

The change you mention could be because of the Guild Wars 2 announcement.
I've noticed that more than just Boston Guild members gunning for end game accomplishments in order to build up their Hall Of Monuments. And since just about everyone has "been there, done that" in Guild Wars, there is little else to do beside taking up PvP or farm achievements. We've had members who have left before that wanted a more farming focused atmosphere. And unfortunately Eye Of The North provided more than enough.
I'm not sure what else that we could do at the moment. More activities would probably get attention, but then a lot of this would be focused on the accomplishments complaint. More Officers won't solve anything at all with the current membership.
I'll ping others on the list, inactive or not through the email system here provided they registered at one point. I hope they won't hate me for that, but couldn't hurt to try.

I know I am one on the list of people who you have gotten complaints about because of my farming / title grinding. I have talked to both Aura and Sharei about this and taken care of it. We had a long talk in BG guildhall about several things that were bothering me and other people and were able to come to conclusions on just about every one. I hope things look up for you Ariena. Real life comes FIRST no matter what. Always has and always will be. We will all be here when you get back. Do not worry about things happening in the guild / alliance. Its just part of MMORPG Alliances. I have been playing MMORPGs for 10 years now and I have seen many guilds / alliances go through shifts and changes. It is just part of the game. People change their focuses. People shift their attentions. People change their minds. It is just the nature of people. I am confident that you will adapt and overcome Ariena. You are a great leader and I would not want to be anywhere else. I await your return and hope that everything is going well for you. Congrats on your schoolwork and I wish you all the best. You can always reach me ingame or on here or through emails at Gonlau85@hotmail.com

I?ve also been busy with real life things, so much so that I really haven?t had time to get on Guild Wars the past month or so. Because of this, I probably missed any changes in guild atmosphere that occurred. But I don?t think the changes are the fault of anyone in leadership. Guild Wars is an aging game and I think that many in the fanbase may be tiring to a degree. I agree with Omega that the fact that Guild Wars 2 looms in the future is changing the way people play Guild Wars. Like the rest of you, I?m not really sure how to fix this. What I do know is that the best part of this guild has been doing group activities with so many friendly and supportive people. I think the most important thing is to try to maintain this friendly atmosphere. Perhaps guild events are a good way to do this. However, we probably should continue to coordinate such activities with the alliance as a whole. To really get some good teams and have some fun together, I?m betting we?re going to have to make use of the entire alliance.

Thank you all for coming with responses so quickly, Adamant in particular for registering with the forums to post.
It seems I have grasped the problems well, as you all seem to agree with the bulk of my post. Before taking action, I would like to hear from others on these matters, and ponder your responses. Alfrond brings up an interesting point about Alliance activities that has had me frustrated for a long time now. Simply put, we do not have enough active members to do many of the more fun and challenging tasks in the game without turning to the Alliance. While I enjoy spending time with the other Guilds, I feel that our shift towards doing more stuff in the Alliance has severely limited the things we do solely as a Guild, and I feel these Guild-only events are important. One of the things I am considering is bringing back Guild Night for some fun and camaraderie.
I think the best way to go from here is to figure out what everyone wants, plain and simple. Post here with what things you like and dislike (no sugarcoating) about the Guild and Alliance, and list some memorable moments (good and bad) that you have had with us. Alfrond commented that he enjoys the activities and people, I am interested in which activities you like the most if you care at all, and your thoughts on what Guild Night would mean to you.
Omega, you bring up contacting our "retired" members, and I very much like this idea. I think many of our members that have left did so because they got bored, or felt like they ran out of things to do. I want to accelerate my PvP programs to include weekly scrimmages and training (smaller scale per training event) and in tandem with the new content added in the April update, I feel many players would be interested in returning. I'd like to discuss the content of the email with you.

My most fond moment was the day I met you Ariena. My brother asked you to invite me to UW and you agreed to let me tag along. It was the first time I ever used cry of pain in a group setting. I enjoyed that. The other memory I have is me and Shinx in The Deep. Figuring out all the little nuances the hard way. I enjoy doing more endgame hard things with the guild/alliance. With 4 people we can do The Deep. Its not hard to accrue 4 ppl on a weekend as long as we use the forums and ingame planning to plan ahead. I recently managed to get my perma-sin up and working so if you wanted to attempt UW or FoW using a perma-sin as a tank I would love to do that. I enjoy doing things with the guild. Dungeons would be another fun item. Ive had a lot of fun doing dungeons in EotN H/H. I think that I would have a lot more fun doing them with the guild.
Not sugar-coating anything, the only problem I have with the guild is the lack of players. I see MYTH on some nights have 6-8 people active and doing things. Ive gotten into the habit of getting together with Strife and Eris and Fiddy from KGB and doing things. This problem isnt even really a problem. This is why we are part of an ALLIANCE. I agree with the guild activities but I do not think that with the ammount of people we have that are active we will be able to do much on a fulltime weekly basis. Once or twice a month should be do-able with advance planning and warning. There is no way to really make the guild have more active members and being a longtime MMORPG player I appreciate the ammount of effort you guys put into making sure our guildmates/alliance members are mature. It means a lot to get on every day and not see ROFLMAO or similar childlike messages. I see no arguing or bickering between members. I see no confrontations. Aside from the childish pun here and there we are a mature and secure Alliance. I enjoy that immensely. I like knowing that I can get on any time of the day and have a conversation without having to slap myself into understanding that this game has lots of kids playing it. I get that enough whenever I sit in Kamadan for more then 30 seconds.
All in all I believe you do a great job at leadership Ariena. Even with this extended break. Things happen in life and other then appointing officers there is no way to combat this. I like the direction the guild is going in. I enjoy the things we do as an Alliance. I love the friends I have made playing this game. If things are changing slightly, let it happen. Games EBB and FLOW. Its just the nature of MMORPGs. We need to flow along with it and ride out this time of change. Things do not need to change for the Alliance as a whole as long as we can communicate how we feel and talk with eachother. The game may change but we do not need to.

I will try to be on later today (Friday) during the day and possibly evening to talk to many of you in-game. I also need to discuss some Alliance matters with the other Leaders, so I will not be able to devote all of my online time to purely Guild concerns.
Vent is a possibility, but unless you have a good reason to merit its use, I would prefer to chat using the in-game system.

Sometimes it is easier to articulate thoughts talking then typing. But I will attempt to be on later tonight. Can you give me roughly a time to look for you?

I've talked to a couple of you in-game now as well, in addition to Ellsbeth last night. Things are starting to come together so to speak, and I'm getting a terrific feel of what everyone wants in the Guild. We seem to differ on some points, but our core objectives are the same. We are still all looking to have fun, and while some are interested in doing more high-end events such as Elite Areas and competitive PvP, many are content just to spend time with their fellow members, whatever the activity, and others prefer not to participate in the more taxing content for their own reasons. Although we are split over this issue, I feel this is a healthy thing and helps to anchor us in our core beliefs. Another key issue we have is membership, and while some members feel that we should promote growth, others don't have an opinion either way. Nearly everyone would love more events and "sponsored" activities, but many do not have the time to participate in long ventures or cannot always promise to be present at a certain time. There are some other factors at play, but these seem to be the main points everyone wants to discuss. It seems apparent to me that these problems are possible to remedy, but that a lot of work needs to be done. I've been trying to do as much work myself to respect the real-life obligations of our Officers, but I'll be needing a lot of help not just from my Officers, but from everyone in the Guild. Here is a list of projects I would like to start: - Small scale recruitment - We will never advertise ourselves in towns, but I would like everyone to keep an eye out for nice, Guildless players for whom we may be a good fit.
- Guild Night 2x - 2 nights a week (rotating) to have some fun, give me feedback, and invite potential members to give them a good feel of what we're about. More details on Guild Night to come!
- Forum Challenges and Contests - These are geared towards members who want to participate, but cannot devote themselves in-game to specific times. These will take place in a new forum (see below).
- Forum and Site Changes - The new Site layout went live about a week ago courtesy of Omega and his awesome talents! I'm working with him to update the old Articles section and Forums to make them easier to use and more relevant. You can already see the Archive board where some of the retired forums will be going.
More information on these is to come, but I would like your initial opinions on these!
